Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Why is Scuup designed to only provide positive reviews (i.e. recommendations) of products? Wouldn't it be valuable for users to know what products are to avoid?
A1: A product written about may have deficiencies but needs to be overall somewhat valuable, at least to some group of users, in order to be qualified as a scuup.   In the detailed section of a scuup, there is a "Limitations" section where the author can list the issues with the product.
Q2: It seems some useful features are missing, will you implement features such a contact importer or collaborative editing of a product's basic info section?
A2: Yes we will.   We are still in early beta and recognize that a few important features are still missing.   We are working as fast as possible to implement them and also other features that the community has indicated to be important.
Q3: Where is the discussion forum?
A3: At this time, we use the Facebook group "Scuup Beta Testing"
Q4: I want to report a bug, where do I go?
A4: At this time, we use the Facebook group "Scuup Beta Testing"
Q5: What extra incentives do I have to contribute this early after the launch of the site?
A5: When you write the detailed information section for seven products, you will accumulate enough points to receive the title "early adopter".   This is a permanent title and you will be rewarded later on with perks such as the ability to disable all advertisement, if you choose to do so.
Q6: Should I contribute on a wide range of product categories or focus on a few categories only?
A6: We suggest that you specialize in a few categories and their subcategories.   We believe people will more likely add you as a trusted contributor if they can look up to you as "the" expert in their network for a specific category.
Q7: How does the site intend to generate revenue in order to continue its operations?
A7: Down the road we intend to enable a strict minimum of advertisement and references to products that the user has requested to have price quotation on.
Q8: Why some users have titles and what are all the titles available? How do you get them?
A8: Titles are implemented as a small recognition to users who contribute and help make the site work better.  They are automatically given by the system based on a set of rules. There are three types of titles: contributor, helper and early adopter.   Any user can have all three types of titles.   Each type of title is graded as basic, important and essential.   The more points accumulated, the higher the grade of the title. The threshold of points for each grade is as follow:
  • Basic: 20 pts
  • Important: 100 pts
  • Essential: 500 pts
The contributor and early adopter titles are reached when sufficient "contributor points" have been accumulated.   The early adopter tile can only be reached if sufficient contributor points have been accumulated prior to a set time limit (typically 3 months after launch).   The helper title is reached when sufficient "helper points" have been accumulated.
